Warm up those grills and pull out those American flags, Memorial day is fast approaching. It is time to honor our fallen and celebrate the bravery of those who have fought and died for their country. Many of us celebrate this holiday differently; some celebrate at the beach, some with family, and some host large gatherings with food and drinks present. 

For those who are sticking to their strict diet, don't worry too much; we created healthy, diet-friendly recipes you can bring along to your barbeque party using all your favorite Doctors Best products.

Marinades/Sauces/Dressing

It is said the most fattening thing about a dish can be what you drizzle on top of it. Don't settle for store-bought marinades, sauces, or salad dressings; they are filled with high-calorie ingredients that can break your diet with just one bite. Create your own condiment to add to your dish or use recipes to create a tasty alternative. 

High Protein BBQ sauce

Ingredients: 

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients to a smooth consistency
  2. Serve on a protein of choice & enjoy

Beef Marinade

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of NutriWise Beef Bouillon Soup
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 packets diet sweetener
  • ½ tbsp. ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp. garlic powder

Directions:

  1. Dissolve beef soup in water
  2. Add remaining ingredients and stir until mixed well
  3. Allow meat to marinate about 5 hours in a covered dish

Balsamic Vinaigrette

Ingredients:

  1. Pour over salad or delicious vegetables
  2. Serve & Enjoy

Main course/Side dishes

The best thing about barbeques are the foods being prepared on and off the grill. Smothered in high calories sauces and possibly deep-fried, these are things to steer away from. Replace those high-calorie dishes with a healthier alternative. Here are our suggestions for some dishes you can bring along to your memorial day gathering. 

Mock Fried Chicken

Ingredients 

 Directions

  1. Combine first three ingredients in a bag
  2. Shake chicken in a bag until coated
  3. Heat oil in a non-stick skillet
  4. Add chicken, and cook until done
  5. Serve & Enjoy

Swiss Steak

Ingredients

  • 1 package NutriWise Cream of Tomato Soup
  • 3 ½ round Steak, cut into strips
  • ¼ cup green peppers, diced
  • ½ cup mushrooms, sliced
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder to taste

Directions

  1. In a small non-stick frying pan combine steak and vegetables
  2. Add salt, pepper and garlic powder
  3. Cook until meat is slightly browned
  4. Mix soup according to package directions, then pour over vegetable mixture
  5. Simmer on low heat for approximately 30 minutes
  6. Serve & Enjoy

No Dish Summer Medley

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Place all ingredients in a small baking dish, sprinkle with Chicken Soup.
  3. Cover tightly with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 min.

Marinated Mushrooms 

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan dissolve beef soup in water.
  2. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for 2 hours.

Mix all ingredients in a blender on low speed until desired consistency. Serve over ice.
