Our bodies contain good and bad bacteria; probiotics are known as the "friendly" bacteria as they help to neutralize bad bacteria. Three of the most regularly consumed probiotics include Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Saccharomyces. An imbalance is created when the bad bacteria outnumbers the good, and can result from a variety of reasons such as poor diet, use of antibiotics, or illness.
